Jerichau.

Dear Madame Jerichau
I have a letter from Sir Edwin Landseer, entreating me to make his most humble excuses to you for not being able to comply with your most flattering request to sit to you. He tells me that he has resisted all the solicitations of the kind from English painters, having an inseperable objection, // [c…tten?] from too much or too little vanity, to let himself be taken. In another [scene?] I assure you he is taken by you, for he feels the kind compliment you have paid him most deeply.
I find his very handwriting altered, which has been one of the grandest I have known. But I have long remarked the alteration you remarked the other night.
With my kind compliments to Mr. Jerichau who I fear will soon be leaving you.
Believe me
Yours very humble
Eliza Eastlake
