Elisabeth Jerichau Baumann
London
Lady Eastlake presents her compliments to Mrs Jerichau & begs to answer for Sir Charles who is very much engaged – she also apologizes for not answering Mr[s] Jerichau’s letter sooner, but as the days for sending in pictures to the Royal Academy for Exhibition were already long past when Mr[s] Jerichau’s // letter arrived, the delay is not of such importance. The time for sending in pictures is always early in April – this year on the 5th & 6th instant. There is too little room on the walls for the pictures which are annually sent – at the same time foreign works the council of the Academy are glad to admit foreign // works of merit.
If Mrs Jerichau should wish to send another year specimen of her art she will receive every information by writing to “the Secretary of the Royal Academy, Trafalgar Square London”.
Lady Eastlake begs to remind Mrs Jerichau of the disappointment caused to Sir Charles & her, & the friends invited // by the non appearance of herself & Mr Jerichau at a dinner for for which they had themselves [fined?] the day. If Mr or Mrs Jerichau wrote to apprise Lady Eastlake of their being prevented fulfilling their engagement the letter never reached its destination.
